What is Distance Reiki & Who Can Benefit?
Distance Reiki is a form of Reiki where the practitioner and the client do not have to be in the same physical location. It can be done at any distance and across any timeline, which includes younger versions of ourselves, traumatic events, and past lives. Distance Reiki is not just for humans; animals, plants, situations, and even events can all be recipients of distance Reiki.
These sessions work because energy is not limited by distance, distance is only a physical limitation. There is no separation amongst us. We are interconnected, can feel each other, and have access to infinite consciousness.
Most Reiki teachers agree that distance Reiki is just as powerful and effective as in person sessions, the only difference being the physical contact. The practitioner may enter the client's energy field with permission from the client, and identify blockages or specific areas in need of healing. This option allows clients to receive Reiki from the comfort of their own home which may be more relaxing for some and enable them to be more receptive of the energy. It may also be a more cost effective option for someone who would like to receive multiple treatments but can't afford multiple in-person treatments.
Distance Reiki can be done with the client on the phone or Facetime, or at an agreed upon time with a follow up call. The client does not have to do anything special for the session, I ask clients to lay down in a relaxing space if they have the option and to be as free from distractions as possible. The sessions typically last between 20-40 minutes. I advise clients to hydrate before the session and continue to drink a lot of water as the energy can be dehydrating and water helps you stay grounded.
The experience of a distance Reiki session varies from person to person. Some may not feel anything initially when the session starts but then experience sensations around the body like tingling, bubbling/rumbling in the stomach, heat sensations, etc. You may also experience an influx of emotions seemingly out of nowhere, perhaps a memory or event comes up, these are all signs that the energy is moving through you and doing what it's supposed to. Most commonly, the clients will feel deeply relaxed like a haze comes over them and sometimes even fall asleep.
I sometimes have spirits of the client's loved ones come in while I am doing a session. They will usually give me short messages to give to the client, expressing their continued love or meaningful memories shared with the client.
Distance Reiki Experiences
Paisley's Story
One of my physicians contacted me after her beloved Paisley had gotten into the trash and ingested tampons resulting in a blockage. She went through emergency surgery but was struggling with recovery and came down with a fever. Her owner feared the worst. We decided to do a distance Reiki session, she was still in the hospital. This was such a powerful, mind blowing session. I started the session and found myself in the hospital kennel with her, kissed her soft face and told her why I was there, though I felt she was already expecting me.
Throughout the healing, Paisley showed me some of her favorite things; leading me into her treasured backyard and showing her love for her owner's husband. She even expressed dissatisfaction of how she was no longer able to get in her owner’s bed. Her owner confirmed they had stopped letting her in bed once they had children. I snuggled with her like I would my own babies and concluded the session when it was time.
That night, her owner (also very spiritually connected) received a message from her guides that Paisley’s fever would drop at 10PM. She was also able to connect with Paisley and cuddled her from a distance just as I did. Paisleys fever did in fact drop just hours following her session. She was able to eat some chicken the following morning.
I felt the need to check in with her a few weeks later. Paisley just had her staples removed the day before and is off meds! She is getting happier everyday. This was a beautiful healing experience for her owner as well. I find when you do reiki for an animal, inevitably, you are also doing reiki for their owner as well.
