What is Reiki?
Reiki is a complementary, non-invasive Japanese modality of energy healing meaning "spiritual energy" or "universal life energy". This technique uses gentle, light touch where energy comes through the practitioner to the recipient but can also be done hands-off or in distance with set intentions which is the case for many animals and is just as effective as hands-on Reiki.
Every living thing has life force energy moving in and around the body; if this energy is low, then we are more susceptible to illness and stress. If the energy is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Reiki encourages a healthy flow of energy that is incredibly relaxing, stress relieving, and ignites the body's natural healing ability.
When the body is in a state of relaxation, the body is able to heal itself.
Reiki has been proven to reduce stress and pain levels, increase relaxation, help with depression and anxiety, improve fatigue, and quality of life.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn, use and receive Reiki.
This healing modality is incredibly beneficial for all ages, from infant children, to those at the end of life, domesticated or wild animals, even plants. It can be used for any ailment or illness, injuries, trauma, transitional periods, grief, stress, anxiety, depression, etc.
Reiki Approach for Humans
In person Reiki is done with light, gentle touch but can also be done with hands hovering over the body as well if touch is uncomfortable for the client. The client will typically lay on a massage table, face up, and fully clothed. My method of Reiki for humans combines traditional Reiki with the use of healing crystals, tuning forks and sound therapy.

I use soothing 432 hz healing frequencies for sound healing as well as Tibetan Healing music by Nawang Khechog, a Tibetan flutist and former monk.

Crystals also emit energy so using them with Reiki amplifies their healing capabilities.

Can be used to target more substantial blockages and areas of need.

Each crystal used corresponds to different chakras of the body.

Charged & cleansed crystals are placed (with permission) on the corresponding chakras of the body.

I use weighted tuning forks specifically tuned to each of the body's 7 energy centers.
o Tuning forks work by attuning the body's vibrations on a cellular level and promotes the activation of Qi so life force energy can flow freely without any blockages. It balances the nervous system by aligning the right and left brain, thus improving cognition and clear thinking.
o Tunes the body's natural cycle or circadian rhythm while stimulating homeostasis, helping to bring the body back to its natural state of balance.
o Tuning forks also aid in repairing our DNA structure while reducing chronic stress levels, anxiety, inflammation, muscle pains, and digestive disorder symptoms.
Reiki For Animals
Animals LOVE Reiki! Reiki is not just intended for humans, animals benefit immensely from this healing and really enjoy it. Just as Reiki is used on humans for healing, it can do just the same for animals. Some situations where animals would benefit from Reiki healing include:

Transitional difficulties (i.e. moving, introduction of a new pet, change in routine, etc.)

Providing a deeply relaxing, calm environment for an animal preparing to cross over can be very beneficial not only for the animal, but for the owner and family as well.

Incurable or untreatable illness

There are times when veterinary intervention is not feasible. This could be for financial reasons (example below) or exhaustion of veterinary medicine options. Reiki could be a last-ditch effort to save the animals life in these circumstances when veterinary care is not possible for the reasons listed above. Hearing the words, "there's nothing left we can do for them" or "we just have to let the body handle it" can be catastrophically heart breaking to hear.

My Reiki Master teacher told me an amazing story of a local farmer whose pigs had gotten into compost that caused a near fatal intestinal blockage. The farmer could not afford to bring all of her pigs to a veterinarian for emergency surgery due to the cost and had no other options. The Reiki Practitioner did Reiki for the pigs. Within minutes, the pigs stood up and "released" the blockage, and lived.
*This of course cannot be guaranteed and Reiki should never be used as a first option or substitute for medical intervention for humans or animals.*
I have had great success working with animals, the effects of Reiki on animals never cease to amaze me. Below I will share my unique approach to animal Reiki and some personal experiences I've had working with animals.
Animal Reiki Approach & Success Stories
My approach of Animal Reiki is always intuitively guided by the animal. I integrate the Lead Animals Lead method founded by Kathleen Prasad into my intuitive process of examining the animal's behavior and energy, and sometimes even by psychic animal communication if the animal is open. Some animals may not want to be touched for various reasons which is where Distance Reiki comes in. The energy is just as powerful and can be done without being hands-on, at any distance.
When I start the sessions, I will verbalize to the animal why I am here and let them know they may take or reject any energy offered. Most animals can feel the energy as soon as I enter their space and are very open and receptive to the Reiki. The energy will go wherever it is needed regardless of where I am able to place my hands so even if I am unable to put my hands on a particular area that needs healing, the energy will still find its way to areas in need.
The sessions usually last between 30-60 minutes and all depends on the animals receptivity of the energy and how much is needed. Animal Reiki sessions are best done in the animals home or natural space, therefore I will travel to you or we can arrange distance Reiki.

Juniper
Juniper or "Junie", my 4 year old chocolate lab co-pilot, always by my side and one of the most loyal dogs I have ever met. Miss Juniper was less than thrilled when I brought home our 3 month old Frenchton, Stevie. She was used to being the only dog and she is the queen of our house. She would not have anything to do with Stevie and was so mad at me she wouldn't even look at me. It didn't help that Stevie is incredibly cuddly and has been attached from the start so the jealously and betrayal l was through the roof. I worried Juniper would get aggressive and resent me and that I had shattered our unique bond. I decided it was time to try a Reiki session. I did the session right before bed and we went about our night as usual. Within 24 hours, Juniper and Stevie were playing together! She would have absolutely nothing to do with him for over a week after he came to our home, and suddenly they're playing together, running up and down the hallways, chasing balls, etc. It was no coincidence that the days after I gave Juniper her Reiki, she accepted Stevie into our family the following day. They both still struggle with jealously, but our Reiki sessions have strengthened our bond and trust and she knows that when she's feeling down in any way, she can come to me and ask for Reiki, and she does. These photos are from a session she so clearly asked for. She wanted to keep her paw in my hand and the Reiki haze on her face says it all.
Florence
Florence is a Jersey cow from a local farmstead. I offered her owner, Eliza my services when I saw Florence was having a long, difficult labor. She birthed her calf but following the birth, was struggling with complications including milk fever and wasn't responding to the treatment. Her owner was very diligent in her care and had been visited by multiple large animal Veterinarians, but feared for the worst when Florence stopped eating after just having birthed her calf. Eliza took me up on my offer and I headed to the farm.
Florence was immediately receptive of the Reiki, she could feel the energy as soon as I walked into the barn. She walked right over to me, stood in front of me and even rested her nose on my chest and legs. She was open to communicating and clearly expressed her love and gratitude for Eliza, she knew she was being taken care of and had such a deserving "queen" energy to her. The love between Florence & Eliza was so profound. At one point, Florence put her nose on my forehead and said "thank you." After about an hour of Reiki, I ended the session and talked to Eliza for a few minutes. As we were talking, Florence started chewing cud! Within a few hours, I received a video message from Eliza of Florence chomping away on hay like she never missed a beat. This was such a profound, beautiful experience filled with so much love. Florence is doing amazing and is no longer suffering from complications following her last birth.
Paisley
One of my physicians contacted me after her beloved Paisley had gotten into the trash and ingested tampons resulting in a blockage. She went through emergency surgery but was struggling with recovery and came down with a fever. Her owner feared the worst. We decided to do a distance Reiki session, she was still in the hospital. This was such a powerful, mind blowing session. I started the session and found myself in the hospital kennel with her, kissed her soft face and told her why I was there, though I felt she was already expecting me.
Throughout the healing, Paisley showed me some of her favorite things; leading me into her treasured backyard and showing her love for her owner's husband. She even expressed dissatisfaction of how she was no longer able to get in her owner’s bed. Her owner confirmed they had stopped letting her in bed once they had children. I snuggled with her like I would my own babies and concluded the session when it was time.
That night, her owner (also very spiritually connected) received a message from her guides that Paisley’s fever would drop at 10PM. She was also able to connect with Paisley and cuddled her from a distance just as I did. Paisleys fever did in fact drop just hours following her session. She was able to eat some chicken the following morning.
I felt the need to check in with her a few weeks later. Paisley just had her staples removed the day before and is off meds! She is getting happier everyday. This was a beautiful healing experience for her owner as well. I find when you do reiki for an animal, inevitably, you are also doing reiki for their owner as well.
